Several of my Multiply friends tell me that, among Filipinos who buy and sell goods and services on Multiply, Globe's G-Cash has become the de facto payment mechanism.
How did G-Cash outdo Smart Money, the Philippines' first entrant in the mobile payment/mobile commerce space? A noteworthy subject for a future post, no doubt.
But even if Globe's lead is marginal, its recent alliance with Western Union certainly won't hurt.
Aside: When Globe first announced G-Cash, I thought, "Hey, we invented that!" My friends and I, that is. In fact, the relevant patents are here and here. And we have more!
Maybe, I ought to read the fine print and look for infringement(s). Then again, maybe not. Because, well, how do you sue a client/partner? Should you bite the hand that feeds you?
But hey, I'm easy. I'd gladly take royalties in G-Cash.
